Lace Generator

This project is a stylized lace generator builted in Substance Designer, made specifically for anime or toon-style rendering.

Showcase

There are about 10 different base lace shapes to choose from, each with adjustable length and width. You can switch between single- or double-sided lace, toggle edge outlines, and fine-tune the edge thickness.

The generator also supports two main types of inner lace patterns: one is a repeating motif layout (pattern-in-row), and the other is a full image pattern (pattern-png). The repeating pattern type offers controls for single or double row layout, directional offsets, whether the pattern appears on the edge, edge width, and even whether the pattern is solid or appears as cutouts. The image-based pattern lets you scale the design to fit the lace trim.

Opacity and color are highly customizable too. Each component—the base shape, outline, pattern, and pattern outline—can be controlled individually in terms of transparency and color, giving you tons of flexibility to match any style.

On top of that, a lot of care went into modeling the skirt itself to work with the lace system. Keeping the folds natural while maintaining rectified UVs—especially around the hem—was tricky. The lace area had to stay clean and readable while also flowing naturally with the fabric, which took some thoughtful modeling and UV planning.
